It produces multiple levels of 3D depth without looking overly dark, as many 3D implementations tend to. For now, this is the best there is at what it does.

I'll put it simply. If it weren't for the uneven backlight and its bleed-through, Philips 278G4DHSD would surely get a SmartBuy. But this way, it is a smart buy only for those of you who are willing to order it, and return it and change it in case the backlight is bad. Or those to whom someone will show it in action in a dark room before they actually buy it. Otherwise, if we overlook the uncomfortable control buttons and uncalibrated white/grey, Philips 278G4DHSD deserves nothing but praise. Its price is reasonable, its stand is good, IPS guarantees good viewing angles, there is no flickering and no noise. The sRGB coverage is nearly perfect, the monitor has both good interpolation abilities and an ability to work with different aspect ratios. On top that, PIP and PBP functions work well, response time is short (and customizable) and input lag is low.
