Lightly trimmed or all off; primped 24/7 or just for special occasions? Whether you feel cleaner or more comfortable with less hair “down there” or you just like to keep your undergrowth under control, it’s important to know what you’re doing before you start on intimate hair removal.

So, to clear things up (in more ways than one), here we’ll discuss how to remove pubic hair in four different ways so you can find what’s best for your bikini area. Hair removal can be easy, safe and effective anywhere with the right tools and the right method.

Shaving the bikini line: hair removal the quick and easy way

Shaving is the most popular method of hair removal for genital areas and armpits, being quick, easy and affordable. However, traditional manual razors often cause skin irritation and even cuts. Hair removal using an electric shaver that is specifically designed for intimate use is easier and less likely to irritate. The Philips SatinShave Essential Wet & Dry electric shaver, for example, is designed with a small shaving head that is ideally suited for use over your whole body. You can even use it in the shower, so it fits easily into your daily routine.

It’s always a good idea to trim long hair before shaving. It’ll be easier to shave, and to see what you’re doing! The Philips BikiniGenie Bikini Trimmer is designed for easy use in the bikini area, whether you’re trimming or using the shaving attachment. The rounded cutting teeth on the trimmer effectively cut hairs while protecting your most delicate skin from nicks, while the ergonomic handle design helps you work your way along the bikini line effortlessly, thus minimising mistakes or irritation.

Key steps to shaving:
1. Trim longer hair before you start shaving to make the process easier.

2. Always shave or trim in the direction of hair growth to avoid irritation.

Lasting intimate hair removal: epilation

Epilation involves removing hair from the root, making it a thorough and long-lasting method of hair removal for the genital area. Enjoy two to three weeks of smooth skin after epilating.

Key steps to epilating:

1. As with shaving, trim longer hair first.

2. Exfoliate the area before epilating. The Philips Satinelle Advanced Wet & Dry epilator is perfectly suited for use in the bath or shower, so you can move straight from exfoliating to epilating.

3. Time to epilate! The Satinelle Advanced Wet & Dry epilator is built with a skin stretcher cap that tightens your skin for you, making epilating much easier. With an Opti-light function, it’s easy to target hairs even in tricky areas. Remember to epilate against the direction the hair grows in, as opposed to trimming, which needs to be done in the direction of hair growth. Be sure to use the delicate area cap for bikini area hair removal to avoid irritation.

Not for the faint hearted: how to remove pubic hair with wax

As with epilating, waxing removes hairs from their roots, giving you a smooth and long-lasting result. Waxing involves tugging out the hairs in one swift motion, however, making it one of the more painful ways to remove hair.

How to wax your bikini area:

Hard wax is suitable for coarse hair and protects the skin, so it’s the best wax to use in hair removal for the genital area.

1. Trim your pubic hair to approximately six millimetres.

2. Heat the wax and apply some of it on the inside of your wrist to make sure that it isn’t too hot.

3. Then, follow the instructionson the packaging closely for intimate and bikini line hair removal. Pull your skin taut before you pull off the wax to reduce pain.

Depilating the bikini area with hair removal cream

Hair removal cream is very easy: you simply apply the cream and remove it after a few minutes, leaving the area hair-free. Unfortunately, hair removal creams contain strong chemicals that can attack your skin along with the hair. If you want to try this method, make sure that the cream only comes into contact with the outer areas of your skin.

How to use hair removal cream:

Always read the instructions on the packaging carefully before using any hair removal cream.

1. Test the product on a small area around your bikini line before applying it to a larger area. Wait 24 hours before using it in full, so that you can be sure there aren’t any delayed negative reactions.

2. After this time, you can apply the cream to the outer bikini area and remove it as directed by the instructions.

3. If you have any doubts about where you can use the cream, don’t take any risks: use hair removal creams only where they are appropriate and finish off sensitive areas with a different intimate hair removal method.
